KIDS! Give your parents the change you have collected and ask them for help to write and send a check or money order. Ask them to do it right away after you give them your change (and don’t forget to say please).

There are two big ways you can help. We encourage you to do both!!

#1   COLLECT EVERY QUARTER, nickel, dime, or dollar that you can and donate it to a relief organization. It's really easy:

STEP 1: Choose a Relief Organization That Will Benefit from the Money You Raise: Many organizations are working hard to ensure that families in need of help receive food, shelter, and medicine. Learn how different organizations are helping families and then choose your favorite one to benefit from the money you raised. Click here to find out how.

STEP 2: Donate the Money You Have Raised to that Organization Please do not send cash. Cash can get lost or stolen in the mail, and there’s no way to keep track of it if something should happen to it. Instead, you should either give the money to a parent or guardian with a credit card and have them donate the appropriate amount by visiting our Give page or give it to someone with a bank account and have them write a check or get you a money order and send it to the relief organization of your choice. Click here to find out how.

#2   BECOME A LEADER and get others involved! There are lots of ways that you can get others involved in Quarters From Kids. Start by telling your friends and classmates what you are doing and ask them to help. Here are some ideas for how you can start:

IDEA 1: Ask Your Friends to Give a Quarter Ask your friends, family neighbors, classmates, or entire school to donate a quarter, dollar, or more! The more people that help you, the more good we can do. You can ask adults to donate too – including your parents, family members, teachers, coaches and others that you know and trust.

IDEA 2: Hold a Bake Sale at Your School
A great way to involve your friends and entire school in raising money is to hold a bake sale and add that money to your fundraising efforts. Chocolate chip cookies are a big seller!

IDEA 3: Think of Other Creative Ways to Raise Money
There are hundreds of ways you can help. Here are a few:
  • Babysit
  • Hold a neighborhood carwash
  • Make a hot chocolate stand
  • Do housework in exchange for donations from your parents (vacuum, make beds, take out the garbage, serve your parents breakfast in bed, etc.)
  • Go door-to-door and collect donations from your neighbors (you can bring them each a brownie or something if you like; if you talk to local businesses, you may raise more than you will by going to individual houses or apartments)
  • Shovel snow or rake leaves
  • Have a pizza party or movie night with popcorn and candy for your friends, and make the cost of admission a $10 donation to the fund
  • Collect and recycle soda cans for the 5 cent deposits
  • Ask local businesses if you can set up Quarters From Kids collection at their counters (you may also want to explain what the money is for on the jar)
  • "Do Something" has many other great ideas.
IDEA 4: Tell Us How You Are Making A Difference
Sharing the story of why you wanted to get involved and help families affected by hurricane Katrina will inspire other kids to want to join you.

IDEA 5: Bookmark Quarters From Kids
Don’t forget to add this page to your list of favorite sites, or even make it your home page. The website is the best source for information about how many quarters we have all raised, new and creative fundraising activities, and cool ways to share your stories with other Kids in Action!
